Timing guidelines are recommended to guide weekly instruction. Specific decisions should be made based on the needs of students. Links to an external site.

The sections below identify instructional focus (standards) for each module. Standards are linked to full standards pages. These pages provide the instructional resources needed for instruction, independent work and assessment.
First Semester: Quarters 1 and 2
Getting to Know My Math Students
One Week • August 26 - September 30
This module focuses on who our students are as learners and mathematicians.
- Learn about students' math identities to begin to foster productive dispositions towards mathematics.
- Engage students in mathematical tasks and make observations of students.
- Build a math community.
Unit 1 • Quarter 1 • Factors and Multiples
Two Weeks • September 3 - September 13 (6 lessons, 9 days)
In this unit, students apply understanding of multiplication and area to work with factors and multiples.
Recommendation: Additional time in the unit should be spent reinforcing multiplication and division basic facts instruction and practice.

Unit 2 • Quarter 1 • Fraction Equivalence and Comparison
Five Weeks • September 16 - October 17 (16 lessons, 23 days)
In this unit, students generate and reason about equivalent fractions and compare and order fractions with the following denominators: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 100.
Recommendation: Additional time in the unit should be spent reinforcing multiplication and division basic facts instruction and practice.

IN THIS UNIT, STUDENTS WILL:
Unit 3 • Quarter 2 and 3 • Extending Operations to Fractions
Five Weeks • October 21 - November 22 (18 lessons, 23 days)
In this unit, students learn about products of a whole number and a unit fraction. Students learn to add and subtract fractions with like denominators, and to add and subtract tenths and hundredths.
Recommendation: Additional time in the unit should be spent reinforcing multiplication and division basic facts instruction and practice.

Unit 4 • Quarter 2 • From Hundredths to Hundred-Thousands
Five Weeks • November 25 - January 17 (22 lessons, 29 days)
In this unit, students read, write and compare numbers in decimal notation. They also extend place value understanding for multi-digit whole numbers and add and subtract within 1,000,000.

- Generate equivalent fractions with denominators of 10 and 100 and add them 4.NF.5
- Read and write decimals 4.NF.6
- Place decimals on a number line 4.NF.6
- Compare decimals 4.NF.7
- Explain the value of a digit in relation to adjacent digits. 4.NBT.1
- Read, write, represent (including expanded form), and compare numbers. 4.NBT.2
- Compare numbers; round and estimate numbers. 4.NBT.3
- Fluently add and subtract multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm.4.NBT.4

Second Semester: Quarters 3 and 4
Unit 5 • Quarter 3 • Multiplicative Comparison and Measurement
Five Weeks • January 21 - February 21 (17 lessons, 21 days)
In this unit, students interpret, represent, and solve multiplicative comparison problems using an understanding of the relationship between multiplication and division. They use this thinking to convert units of measure within a given system from larger to smaller units.

Unit 6 • Quarter 3 and 4 • Multiplying and Dividing Multi-Digit Numbers
Seven Weeks • February 24 - April 11 (24 lessons, 34 days)
In this unit, students multiply and divide multi-digit whole numbers using partial products and partial quotients strategies, and apply this understanding to solve multi-step problems using the four operations.
Recommendation: Additional time in the unit should be spent reinforcing the concepts taught within this unit.

IN THIS UNIT, STUDENTS WILL:
- Number and geometric patterns 4.OA.5
- Solve word problems 4.OA.3
- Solve problems with measurements 4.MD.2
- Multiply a whole number of up to four digits by a one-digit whole number and multiply two two-digit numbers 4.NBT.5
- Find whole-number quotients and remainders with up to four-digit dividends and one-digit divisors 4.NBT.6

Unit 7 • Quarter 4 • Angles and Angle Measurement
Three Weeks • April 22 - May 9 (15 lessons, 14 days)
In this unit, students learn to draw and identify points, rays, segments, angles, and lines, including parallel and perpendicular lines. Students also learn how to use a protractor to measure angles and draw angles of given measurements, and identify acute, obtuse, right, and straight angles in two-dimensional figures.

Two Weeks • May 12 - May 23 (8 lessons, 10 days)
In this unit, students classify triangles and quadrilaterals based on the properties of their side lengths and angles, and learn about lines of symmetry in two-dimensional figures. They use their understanding of these attributes to solve problems, including problems involving perimeter and area.
