Pull, Predict, and Find Out

  • Pull 4 digit cards to make a number with two decimal places. Have students read the number.
  • Reshuffle the cards and repeat.

  • Ask students to estimate what the difference of the two numbers will be. Think-pair-share predictions.

  • Ask students to make a sum, from two numbers, that is greater than _(i.e. 50.5), equal to (i.e. 60.35)_, or less than ___(i.e. 42.53).
  • Their numbers should be made with 4 digits with no less than 2 decimal places.
  • Bring the class together to share solutions.
  • Ask students to make a difference of two numbers with the same clues.

  • Have students match answers cards with word problem cards that are found on the Word Problem Matching Resource Sheet
  • Bring class together to share findings.
