Grade 5 • Week of April 27 - May 1 • Content Task #1 • Create a Content Journal

Overview

We are going to start this week by creating a home Content Journal! This is a place where you can keep all of your work for Science, Social Studies, and Health while we are distance learning.

There are many different ways you can create your Content Journal. Choose one(1) way that you think will work best for you.

	Composition Notebook
	Spiral Notebook
	Three-ring binder with notebook paper inside
	Lined notebook paper, stapled together
	Digital: Use Google Doc or Microsoft Word to create and organize journal entries.

Task

Use materials that you have to create a home Content Journal.
You can use a variety of materials to make sure your Content Journal has three(3) sections:
- one(1) section for Science
- one(1) section for Social Studies
- one(1) section for Health
Decorate the cover, or first page, of your new home Content Journal!

Using Your Content Journal

Besides using this journal as a place to do your weekly work tasks, think about other fun ways you can use this journal while you are home!

Science

Make and record observations of the weather each day. Do you notice any patterns?
Choose a window to look out. Make and record observations, at the same time each day, of what you see out the window. What changes do you notice over time? What animals do you see? What is happening with sunshine and the weather?
Do you have bird feeders or trees visible from your house? Spend time each day watching the birds and recording your observations. What do you notice about how the birds compare to each other?

Social Studies

Create a "Good Citizen Timeline." Each week, add one event that tells how you were a good member of your family or community. Be sure to include the date and your action. Consider illustrating each event.

Health

Draw or write about something healthy you did for yourself this week. Did you exercise? Eat something healthy? Calm yourself when you were stressed?
