This week we will be focusing on problem solving using subtraction.

My mom had 6 strawberries in a bowl. I ate 2 of them. How many strawberries are left in the bowl?
There were 7 balloons. Two of the balloons popped. How many balloons are left?
My brother went to the mailbox and and there were 10 pieces of mail. Four pieces of the mail were "junk mail" and he threw them into the recycle bin. How many pieces of mail does my father need to open?
There are 7 days in a week. We took a walk on 5 of the days last week. How many days did we NOT walk?
There were 9 pencils on the desk. Some were yellow and some were blue. How many pencils could be yellow and blue?

Count while you do jumping jacks, start at 8 and stop at 34. Repeat but start at 15 and go to 46.
Have a family member time one minute- count starting from 1 and do as many jumping jacks as you can in the one minute. Where did you stop? If you do that each day, will you always stop at the same number?
Fold a piece of paper in half, half again, and then in half one last time. Open it up and there should be 8 boxes. Have student place a number 1-8 in each of the boxes. Have the student go on a number hunt around the house to locate objects of that quantity. The have your student draw a picture of the object(s) next to the number in the box.
Tell your student a number from 0-30. Have them count on to 100 from that number. Have them count backwards to zero starting with that number.
Give your student a number and have them take that many steps and see where that takes them. Have them count on from that number to a specific location in your house (bedroom, bathroom, kitchen sink, tub, etc.).
