Overview

This week during our Community time we are going to talk about empathy, diversity, and respect. We will hear a story about a character who is different, and how they feel going through their day. We will look for some opportunities to show others respect and empathy through your kindness this week. We also challenge you to learn about other places and people through books and the internet, looking at a map or listening to new languages. Everyone has something wonderful to share with the world and, everyone needs a little kindness in their lives every day!

Task

Step 1: At the beginning of the year, we learned about the Golden Rule. Do you remember what it is? Rewatch/listen again to the audiobook Do Unto Otters below. What do you think the author means when the author uses the word "otter"? What other words could we replace with "otters?"

Step 2: When we follow the Golden Rule, we treat others the way WE want to be treated. Below are some ideas from the story. Take ONE minute to think about how you treat others. Do you treat them with the same respect you would like to receive? Use the "1 Minute Timer" during your think time.

Step 3: Now that you have had some think time, I want to hear some of your answers. Today you will go to Wixi to illustrate your ideas in a comic strip. In your comic strip, remember to use the phrases "Please" "Thank you" or "Excuse me" to show kindness and respect to others. I have provided an example for your below. You can draw using the tools or use stickers to illustrate. To type, you can use speech bubbles for the characters in your comic.
