Overview

This week we will learn about social awareness and relationship skills. Social awareness is being able to see the perspective of others from diverse backgrounds and to empathize with them. Developing relationship skills helps establish and maintain healthy and rewarding relationships with diverse people and groups. Our focus is on understanding and practicing respect for others, being empathetic, as well as appreciating diversity.

Today, you are going to work on social awareness and relationship skills with a focus on respecting others, appreciating diversity, and being empathetic.

STEP 1.

find Before starting the video lesson, gather paper or a journal and a pencil or pen.

listen Listen for the vocabulary words and the meaning of empathy, diversity, and respect.

listen Listen to the story We're All Wonders by R.J. Palacio.

think While listening to the story, think about the different feelings the character Auggie has in the story.

- Notice what is happening to make Auggie feel a particular way.
- Observe how other characters in the story act and react to Auggie.

watch Watch the GoNoodle video, "Be a Good Friend".

think Think about the following questions:

How was the duck showing empathy to the bunny?
How was the duck showing respect to the bunny?
Can you think of 2 animals that are friends, but are not the same animal?
