Overview

Today I will learn that information put online creates a permanent footprint.

Lesson

STEP 1.

  Directions: Take a look at the image below.  Pretend that this what you saw in your yard one morning.  What can you tell about what happened the night before?

    Directions: Follow along with your teacher as you learn what information is OK to have in your digital footprint using the Digital Trails Slides Presentation Links to an external site..

Activity: Profiles

STEP 3.

Heart and Arms were playing a game online and noticed there was a chat box. They thought it would be fun to talk to the other players and started to share some information about themselves. The only problem is that they forgot to ask their parents if it was OK first.  

All of you are detectives at the Digital Citizenship Detective Agency. As a detective, you have been hired to find out as much as possible about Heart and Arms.

 Directions: Go on a hunt for the Digital Trail Squares Links to an external site. left by Heart and Arms around the classroom.  The information that they have posted can be seen by anyone on the Internet, including the detectives.  Working with your group, follow the digital trail of both animals and complete the Digital Tracks Handout Links to an external site..

 

STEP 4.

  Directions: Follow your teachers directions to report to the rest of the class what you learned about Heart and Arms. Can you answer these questions?

  • Who can the detectives find out more about, and why?
  • Is there anything that Arms or Heart posted that could be a problem for them?
