Getting Started with Coding

Let's get ready to code our story!

  Directions: Follow along with your teacher to make sure you have the the following documents open in separate tabs in your Chrome Browser in addition to this Canvas tab.  This will allow you to continue to work through your Cornerstone task efficiently. Select the Video Tutorial expander, if you need additional help.

  • From https://hcpss.me (Links to an external site.) select G-Suite to open your Google Drive.
  • Select Recent in the left hand navigation.

  • Look for the two files below in your recent files list.  Select them one at a time to open them each in a new tab.

  • Now open a new tab in your Chrome browser.

  • Sign in to CS First (Links to an external site.) in a new tab.
  • Select Projects in the left hand navigation.

  • Select the Cornerstone Task project to continue to work on the project you started last class period.

  • You should now have four tabs open on your Chrome Browser and you are ready to get started.

  Directions: Select the play button to begin Accessing the Cornerstone Task Project - Video Tutorial Links to an external site. (Links to an external site.). As you view this video, follow the directions to access your Cornerstone Task Project from the previous class period in your CS First account.

**Note: Closed Captioning may not display when using the Firefox browser.

 

Create Your Story

Directions: Review the directions on your Cornerstone Story Requirements document.  Using the Requirements Checklist begin to work through each obstacle task. Add an X in each box as you complete each taskYour project should include:

  • 2 sprites
  • 1 backdrops
  • Dialogue that is timed appropriately
  • Sprites that move

Remember to run and debug your code as needed.

Stuck? Need Help? Productive struggle is important but remember computer programmers often work in teams, so touch base with a fellow coder if you get stuck.  You can also refer to the Scratch Tutorial Cards Links to an external site. (Links to an external site.) for additional programming ideas.

 

Select the Next Page button at the bottom of the page when you have completed all the tasks on the Cornerstone Story Requirements document to submit your assignment.
