Grade 3 CC/GC Cornerstone Task Lesson

Motivation
Multiple Means of Motivation
- Have the students open the Grade 3 CC/GC: Cornerstone Task Module imported in their Tech course. Review the Overview with students
- Using the Lesson page in the student facing module share with students the motivation for the lesson “If you wanted to sell something, how could social media help you? How could you use social media to improve your product?”
- All students time to view the Social Media in Plain English video
- Ask students: “What if you were to create your own ice cream flavor? What would you name the ice cream? What would it taste like? Would people enjoy your ice cream?”
Learning Target:
- Student will see how social media can influence the success of a product.
Lesson
Multiple Means of Representation
- Using the Lesson Introduction on the Lesson page in the module, tell students that they will play the role of a Scoopista and will learn how to market their new ice cream flavor to their peers.
- Using the resources provided in the module, review with the students how to create a flavorful name and description for their ice cream flavor.
Learning Target:
- Students will use creativity and details to create an ice cream flavor that sounds appealing to others.

- Using the Lesson Activity Task page in the student facing module, review with students how to provide and receive respectful peer feedback respectfully. Explain to students that throughout this activity they will be doing both.
- Together with students discuss the three parts of the task that students will complete.
- Guide student to open gr3_ccgc_cornerstoneScoopvilleIceCreamFlavorCard that has been assigned to them in Wixie.
- Students will complete the Wixie Ice Cream Flavor cards. The card should include a creative ice cream flavor, description and graphic for decoration.
Learning Target:
- Students will use Wixie to create an ice cream flavor card that represents their ice cream creation.
Extension
Students can print their ice cream flavors as trading cards to share their ice cream flavors with their classmates.

- Using the Lesson Activity Task page in the student facing module, review with students how to give and receive feedback respectfully. Brainstorm and chart students responses.

- Students will review how to respectful give and receive feedback.

Assist students in putting copy of this ice cream card on the gr3_ccgc_cornerstoneClassFeedback

- In Wixie - Click Send, Export Image, Full Page, click OK, select Desktop and click Save
- Assign each student a slide number and have them drag their ice cream flavor card image to the slide.
- Once students have added their work, the presentation sharing settings should be set as “Comment Only” prior to the feedback activity.
- Develop a procedure for students to provide feedback on four or more of their classmates ice cream cards using the comment feature in Google slides. Each student should receive at least four comments.
- Review qualities of a good comment.
- Allow students time to provide feedback and comment on others work.
Learning Target:
- Student will add the ice cream card to a class google slides presentation. Students will provide peer respectful feedback.
Assessment

- Using Part 3 Responding to the Feedback - Discussion questions section on the Lesson Activity Task Page - tell students that they will answer discussion questions based on the feedback provided on their ice cream card.
- Support students prior to reviewing their comments. Remind them to take a deep breath. Feedback can be difficult to take in. Remember, this feedback is to to help you improve your ice cream flavor.
- After reviewing their feedback, use the gr3_ccgc_cornerstoneReflectionQuestions Links to an external site. Google Doc to ask students do you think your ice cream flavor will sell well? What changes would you make to your flavor to make it sell better in the grocery store?
- Consider your students when selecting how to engage in this discussion. The discussion could be a class discussion, table discussion or pair discussion. Other alternatives would be to have a virtual discussion using Canvas tools such as audio/video recordings or with Flipgrid.
Learning Target:
- Students will reflect on the feedback provided for their ice cream flavor in order to assess how well their ice cream would sell or how to improve the ice cream flavor.
Extension
- Students can discuss the positives and negatives of providing and receiving peer feedback
- Students can create a social media post to share their ice cream flavor beyond their school. Consider using the schools social media accounts to share student work.
Learning Target:
Students will have a discussion on the effects of peer feedback.
