Grade 2 Digital Citizen Cornerstone Task Summary
Summary
Students will research a specific topic within a broad category (animals, biographies, landforms) that is selected by the teacher. Students will compose an email describing what they have learned that includes a citation and an attachment of a student-created video or audio recording about the topic. This project can be completed in conjunction with the English/Language Arts non-fiction unit or the Science landforms unit Lessons 5-8.
Standards
Digital Citizen
Students recognize the rights responsibilities and opportunities of living, learning and working in an interconnected digital world, and they act model in ways that are safe, legal and ethical.
Considerations
- Consider collaborating with classroom teacher and/or media specialist. Students can work individually, in pairs, or in small groups.
- Websites to be used for research can be posted to a Canvas page or put in a Symbaloo or other aggregation tool for ease of access by students. Many of the research databases can be accessed through MackinVIA.
- Consider having students compose the email as a Canvas Inbox message to the teacher. Alternatively they can use an email template in Google Slides or Wixie.
- If you anticipate students doing the Extension activity and making attachments, create a discussion on the Canvas student facing page so the students can submit their attachments.
