Grade K CC/GC Cornerstone Task Summary

Summary

In small groups, students will collaboratively create a project that communicates an environmentally friendly “reminder” to others to Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle, compost and/or the problems with and solutions for landfills. This task can be completed in conjunction with the culmination of the 4th quarter science unit--Relationships in Ecosystems--Communicate Solutions.

Standards

Creative Communicator

Students communicate clearly and express themselves creatively for a variety of purposes using the platforms, tools, styles, formats, and digital media appropriate to their goals.

Global Collaborator

Students use digital tools to broaden their perspectives and enrich their learning by collaborating with others and working effectively in teams locally and globally.

 Standards for Mathematical Practice

Considerations

  • This task should be completed in conjunction with the classroom teacher as the culmination of the 4th quarter science unit--Relationships in Ecosystems--Communicate Solutions.
  • Coordinate with the classroom teacher to reinforce lessons that have occurred in the classroom and to utilize materials that have been developed in the classroom for the unit.
  • Use teamwork/group work language that was used in previous lessons in technology and that the students use in their classroom.
  • Consider displaying student projects with all participating Kindergartners and/or the larger school community by combining student work into one project/video.

Access Points to Consider

  • Provide multiple examples of earth friendly messages as well as sources for appropriate images.
  • Provide scaffolding and support to groups that have difficulty developing an idea by providing templates.
