Grade K CC/GC Cornerstone Task Lesson

Motivation
Multiple Means of Motivation
- Review with students what they have learned in science class about being earth friendly.
- Using any or all of the videos from the science unit as a review of prior knowledge.
- Review worm and/or seed data they have gathered (if applicable)
Learning Target:
- Students will name ways to be earth friendly.
Lesson
Multiple Means of Representation

Brainstorm and create a class list of earth friendly messages that are important to share with the school community.

Brainstorm some Technology Tools that can be used to share these messages. For example:
- Wixie
- Google Slides
- video
- coding with Scratch Jr.
- using robots such as Beebots, Ozobots or Dash and Dot.
- Consider using options that the students are familiar with. (See possible examples here grK_ccgc_cornerstoneExamples Links to an external site..)
- Review with students how to effectively work in a group. Assign a task to each student, remind students that they will rotate tasks during the project.
- Researcher: finalizes the earth friendly message,
- Creator: draws, writes, films or whatever action is appropriate to the product being created,
- Editor: gathers any necessary materials and reviews what other group members do. Also serves as spokesperson.

Students will demonstrate an understanding of how to use different tools to convey their message.
ASsessmenT
Multiple Means of Expression
- Students should work in groups of three to create their message. They choose the message and their method.
- After a brief amount of time, the Editors should tell the class the message and method they chose and why they chose that method. Teacher can assist students with recording their message on the first page of the grK_ccgc_cornerstoneOrganizer

- Remind students of what was accomplished the previous week..

- Remind students of the different roles they have in their groups. Have them switch tasks from the last class and/or remind them that they will switch tasks in the middle of this class period. Students should record who will be in each role each time they switch on their grK_ccgc_cornerstoneOrganizer

Lesson

- Review all the earth friendly messages the students chose. Help students clarify exactly how they will use the method/tool they chose to convey their message on the grK_ccgc_cornerstoneOrganizer

- Students will review Earth Friendly messages.
Assessment
Multiple Means of Expression
- Students continue to work in their groups on their project.
- Once finished, groups use the grK_ccgc_cornerstoneStudentRubric Links to an external site.to make sure they have all necessary parts and revise as necessary.
- Allow students an opportunity to view projects of other groups by setting up a gallery walk at the end of class.
Learning Target:
- Students will work collaboratively to complete the project.
Extension
- Students, with teacher guidance, can monitor trash and recycling disposal during lunch (or snack time). They can use a Google Form or other online data collection device to record trash . recyclables, or types of trash and/or types of recyclables. The students can then count and graph the data, use it for addition and subtraction problems, etc.
