Lesson: Global Cultural Connections/Video Conferencing

- This lesson is designed for 2nd grade students who will apply their knowledge of communicating with others in the classroom to engaging with the global community and begin communicating with learners from other communities and/or cultures. To support this evolution, they will need to effectively communicate using a variety of media and formats. Prior to teaching this unit, students should have a strong understanding of internet safety and digital citizenship taught in the Grade 2 Digital Citizen unit (Canvas Link: Instructional Technology Teacher Curriculum>Grade 2>Digital Citizen)

Motivator Seeds: Multiple Means of Engagement

Collaborative Descriptive Writing Project: Students draw an image with details and write a descriptive paragraph to match the image. Written descriptions are shared with another group of students who read the descriptions and create an image based upon the written description. Here are some samples: “Alien Exchange” Links to an external site. or “Monster Exchange Project Links to an external site.." This unit could be taught collaboratively with classroom or art teacher.
