Closure: What is the Question

Standards for Mathematical Practices: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6

In this closure activity, the teacher presents an answer to the class. Students can work independently or in pairs to write a question or statement that could be used with the answer given by the teacher.  Then as a class questions are shared and the classes discusses if the question/statement can be used with the given answer.

 

Suggestions for Kindergarten

  • sum or difference
  • numeral

 

Possible Questions for Discussion

  1. How are _____ and _____'s questions/statements the same? How are they different?
  2. Will your question/statement still work if ________?
  3. Does anyone have a question or comment about ______'s question/statement?
  4. After hearing/seeing other questions/statements, would you change anything about yours?
