Pre-K Interpreter Services

Overview
interpreter Services

To find out if a parent needs an interpreter, use the Parent tab on Synergy to look for the parent’s name. Click on the name and look for “interpreter needed."

Parent Conferences

  • August Conferences: front office staff or Pre-K teachers should compile a list of families in need of interpreters and send a request in writing to Monica Ranta (monica_ranta@hcpss.org, 410-313-7102) two weeks prior to the actual conference. The two-week window is needed to schedule a time convenient for the teacher, parent, and certified interpreter.
  • November Conferences: for November parent-teacher conferences, schools have an identified staff member that makes interpreter requests for families of students in grades Pre-K to 5. Please work with your administrators to identify the person in charge of submitting interpreter requests and provide them with a list of families.

General

Requests for school-based events and meetings must be made to Monica Ranta (monica_ranta@hcpss.org, 410-313-7102) in writing, two week in advance to secure a certified interpreter.

For emergencies or immediate communication requests through an interpreter, please provide all the pertinent information in writing and by phone (410) 313-7102. This is critical in order to ensure timely and accurate transfer of information. Please provide the student name, parent name, and all available contact information.

Interpreting services for IEP and 504 meetings are managed by the County Diagnostic Center. Please check with the Special Education ITL at your school, or contact Marilyn Lewis at (410)313-7046 for more information.
