Active Directory
Students authenticate to many HCPSS technologies using Active Directory account credentials, including Canvas, Synergy, G Suite and HCPSS.me apps.
Passwords
Password Parameters
Passwords:
- Must be a minimum of six (6) characters containing both letters and numbers.
- Exceptions may be allowed based on demonstrated need.May not be reused for 10 password cycles. Each cycle must be a minimum of two days each.
- May not be the same as the account username.
- May not be shared with others.
Password Resets
Students can reset their own password by pressing the Change Password button at https://hcpss.me Links to an external site.. Students need to add @inst.hcpss.org after their username when resetting their password using the Change Password link.
All school based staff are able to reset students passwords using the Student/Staff Account Management application (SAM). Staff can find information on this application on the Staff Technology Resources Canvas community.
Warning: Accounts are locked after six unsuccessful logon attempts for 10 minutes.
Note: If a student is transitioning to a new school their Active Directory account maybe suspended for a few days during the summer break.
Usernames
Student usernames are comprised of the account holder's first name initial, the first 5 letters of their last name and the last four digits of their student ID. For example, student Jane Doe with student ID 123456789 username would be jdoe6789.
