Chrome Sync allows users to sync user data such as bookmarks, passwords, and history across multiple devices. This feature is automatically turned on when logging into a Chromebook, and users may be prompted to login to Chrome Sync when using the Chrome web browser on other devices.
Warning: To protect your private data, do not Turn on sync... on computers in which you do not have an individual login that is password protected. If Chrome Sync is turned on in error, follow the below directions titled Remove a profile from a computer. If you only log out data will be left behind, and accessible to others.
Turn sync on or off on an Apple or Windows computer
If you’re already signed in with your Google Account, this will be your account photo.
3. Click Turn on sync and then Turn on.
If you’re not signed in, you’ll have to sign in to your Google Account to turn on sync.
Turn off sync
Warning: If you turn off sync, you can still see your bookmarks, history, passwords, and other settings. If you make any changes, they won't be saved to your Google Account and synced to your other devices.
1. On your computer, open Chrome.
2. At the top right, click the three vertical dots in the top right corner and then Settings.
3. At the top, under "People," click Turn off and then Turn off.
Choose what information to sync
1. On a Chromebook: At the bottom right, select the time. On another device: Open Chrome and click the three vertical dots in the top right corner.
2. Select Settings of the Settings gear .
3. In the "People" section, select Sync.
4. Choose what you'd like to sync. To use all the same settings on every Chromebook you sign in to, turn on Sync everything.
5. Optional: Under "Encryption options," you can encrypt your synced data with a passphrase. This doesn't include payment methods and addresses from Google Pay. Learn how to create a sync passphrase.
Delete synced information from your account
You can delete your synced information from your Google Account at any time:
1. On a Chromebook: At the bottom right, select the time. On another device: Open Chrome and click the three vertical dots in the top right corner.
2. Select Settings of the Settings gear .
3. In the "People" section, select Sync.
4. Select Manage synced data on Google Dashboard.
5. At the bottom, select Reset sync.
All the information that has been synced will be deleted from your Google Account. All of your bookmarks, apps, and extensions will stay on your Chromebook, but won't show up on other Chromebooks you use.
Remove a profile from a computer
Note: After you remove someone from Chrome, their bookmarks, history, passwords, and other settings are erased from the computer.
1. On your computer, open Chrome.
2. At the top right, click Profile .
3. Click Manage people.
4. Point to the person you want to remove.
5. At the top right of the person, click More More and then Remove this person.
