Chromebook System Errors
Use the below directions to correct or repair unexpected Chromebook system behavior.
Reset Procedure - received before 2022 (models R751 and R752)
Overview: The Reset Procedure completes a full factory reset and re-enrolls the device.
1. While the Chromebook is off, press Esc + refresh + Power. The Chromebook will reboot and a message stating Please insert a recovery USB stick or SD card is displayed.
Note: A USB Stick or SD Card is NOT required to complete this process.
2. Press Ctrl + D. The screen will display a message about clearing local data.
3. Press ENTER. The Chromebook will reboot and this image will be displayed.
4. A message will display stating Developer Mode being disabled and clearing local data. Press Enter. After the final reboot, the Chromebook will boot to a Welcome screen.
5. Click the Let’s go button.
6. The Connect to a network screen should say WiFi: Connected. Click the Next button.
Note: If a reset is occurring on the HCPSS network, the device must be connected via Ethernet. Devices in the school buildings cannot be reset via the HCPSS wireless networks.
7. On the Google Chrome OS terms screen, toggle OFF the System security setting. Then click Accept and continue.
8. The Chromebook may re-enroll itself into the management system automatically. If it does, the process is finished and the regular HCPSS login screen will be displayed and the student can log in with their Active Directory credentials.
If it doesn't re-enroll automatically, it will display the Enterprise Enrollment screen, on this screen, a student needs to type their full email address (username@inst.hcpss.org). The enrollment screen will pre-fill @hcpss.org at the end since that is our Google Domain but they need to type @inst.hcpss.org.
9. The enrollment process is now complete. The regular login screen will be displayed.
Reset Procedure - received after 2022 (Models R753 and R756)
Students who received new Chromebooks after the 2022 school year, will use the below directions to reset their device off the HCPSS-Network.
- While the Chromebook is off, press Esc + refresh + Power and then follow the on screen instructions as described below.
- Use keyboard arrows to toggle down to Recovery using internet connection and press Enter.
Note: the mouse will not work will in this setting. - Press Enter to select Next
- Press Enter with Available networks selected
- Use arrows to select network and press Enter
- Press Enter to enter your password. Then type your password and press Enter.
Tip: After typing password press Tab to toggle on the view the password entered. - Press Enter.
- The Chromebook will restart when finished.
- Select Get started with the mouse.
- Select the correct network, enter the password and select Connect.
- Select Done.
- Login to the Chromebook.

- Apague su Chromebook presionando uno de los botones de encendido,

2. Descripción general del procedimiento de reinicio
El procedimiento de reinicio completa un reinicio de fábrica completo y vuelve a registrar el dispositivo.
- Mientras el Chromebook está apagado, presione Esc + Actualizar + Encendido. El Chromebook se reiniciará y se mostrará un mensaje que dice Inserte una memoria USB o una tarjeta SD de recuperación.
Nota: NO se requiere una memoria USB o una tarjeta SD para completar este proceso.
- Presione Ctrl + D. La pantalla mostrará un mensaje sobre la eliminación de datos locales.
- Presione ENTER. El Chromebook se reiniciará y se mostrará esta imagen.
4. Aparecerá un mensaje que indica que el modo de desarrollador está desactivado y que se borran los datos locales. Presione Entrar. Después del reinicio final, el Chromebook se iniciará en una pantalla de bienvenida.
5. Haga clic en el botón “Let’s go”.
- En la pantalla Conectar a una red debe decir WiFi: Conectado. Haga clic en el botón Siguiente.
Nota: Si se reinicia en la red de HCPSS, la Chromebook debe estar conectado a travesl de un cable Ethernet. Los dispositivos en el edificio de la escuela no se pueden restablecer a través de las redes inalámbricas de HCPSS.
- En la pantalla de términos de Google Chrome OS, desactive la configuración de seguridad del sistema. Luego haga clic en Aceptar y continúe (Accept and continue).
- El Chromebook puede volver a inscribirse en el sistema de gestión automáticamente. Si lo hace, el proceso finaliza y se muestra la pantalla de inicio de sesión normal de HCPSS y el estudiante puede iniciar sesión con sus credenciales de Active Directory.
Si no se vuelve a inscribir automáticamente, mostrará la pantalla de inscripción empresarial, en esta pantalla, un estudiante debe escribir su dirección de correo electrónico completa (username@inst.hcpss.org). La pantalla de inscripción se completará previamente con @ hcpss.org al final, ya que ese es nuestro dominio de Google, pero deben escribir @ inst.hcpss.org.
- El proceso de inscripción ya está completo. Se mostrará la pantalla de inicio de sesión normal.
