Research databases allow students to explore vetted, trustworthy information on topics that spark their interest. Each product is specifically geared for students in the age ranges they are available to. They provide learners of all ages and skills access to information that is scholarly, peer-reviewed, materials by credible authors, filter and refine tools so learners can find the right information, and age appropriate content, translate, and download tools.
HCPSS offers many online online databases for students to use in the classroom, at home, or anywhere they need to do homework or research. These disparate applications are all accessible via a single login when using MackinVIA. Students can login using their HCPSS credentials to see the available resources.
HCPSS students can access Howard County Library eContent in the classroom, at home, or anywhere they need to do homework or research. Parents/guardians will be notified of the card via email if the school system has an address on file and given two weeks to opt-out by contacting Melissa Daggett (Melissa_Daggett@hcpss.og) via email. If an email address is not available for a parent/guardian, schools may choose to contact parents via flyer or phone call. Cards are fully functioning and provide students all the same borrower privileges of library card. They will be able to access eContent from anywhere, check-out physical items in a branch, and accrue fines. Previously established library cards will still work. Cards will be deactivated when students leave the school system.
