All Notification Settings
- Middle and high school will receive Canvas notifications in their HCPSS Office 365 Email Links to an external site. (open the 365 Email tile on hcpss.me Links to an external site.).
- Elementary students do not have an activated HCPSS email account and will not receive notifications.
- Parents will receive notifications at the email recorded in Family File (the email you use to login to Canvas).
- On the Notification Settings page, you can manage the type and frequency of the notifications you wish to have sent to your email.
- The Canvas Inbox is not an email account. It is an in-app messaging tool and will only receive direct messages from students/teachers in a Canvas course together. The automated notification types on the notification page (announcements, graded assignments, etc) will only send to a regular email address (ex. @gmail.com, Office 365, etc), not to Canvas Inboxes.
Setting Your Notification Preferences
1. Select Account > Notifications
2. For each notification type{1}, choose the frequency for the notification: immediately [2], Daily [3], Weekly [4], or Off [5]
Recommended Parent Notification Preferences

Below are the recommended Canvas notification settings to ensure you receive timely communications from your child's teachers, while reducing large quantities of automated emails. Items not listed are either not recommended or do not go out to parent accounts. You may adjust your preferences at any time.

Common Issues
If you have stopped receiving Canvas Notification in your email:
- Check your email's spam/junk folder and look for messages from notifications@instructure.com. If they are there, mark messages from this address as "Not Junk"/"Not Spam" and add notifications@instructure.com to your email's address book.
- Check your Canvas notification preferences and confirm that you have you notifications turned on.
- Sometimes email providers will bounce back messages to the Canvas server, flagging your email address as undeliverable or "does not exist". When the servers receive those errors, it will disable future outgoing messages to that address. If this has happened you will see a red exclamation mark next to your email address on the Account > Settings screen. Middle or high school students: contact your media specialist if you see this. Parents: reach out to the front office of your child's school. Because elementary students do not have an active HCPSS email they will always see the red exclamation mark next to their email address.
