Overview

Grade 3 Mathematics is designed to prepare students to be college and career ready. The course scope and sequence has been developed using the standards documents linked below. 

MAJOR, SUPPORTING, AND ADDITIONAL CLUSTERS FOR GRADE 3 are outlined below. Students should spend the large majority of their time on the major work of the grade. Supporting and additional work can be engage students in the major work. Refer to the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics for the specific standards that fall within each cluster.

  • Represent and solve problems involving multiplication and division. 3.OA.A (MAJOR) 
  • Understand properties of multiplication and the relationship between multiplication and division. 3.OA.B (MAJOR)
  • Multiply and divide within 100. 3.OA.C (MAJOR) 
  • Solve problems involving the four operations, and identify and explain patterns in arithmetic. 3.OA.D (MAJOR) 
  • Use place value understanding and properties of operations to perform multi-digit arithmetic. 3.NBT.A (ADDITIONAL) 
  • Develop understanding of fractions as numbers. 3.NF.A (MAJOR) 
  • Solve problems involving measurement and estimation of intervals of time, liquid volumes, and masses of objects. 3.MD.A (MAJOR) 
  • Represent and interpret data. 3.MD.B (SUPPORTING) 
  • Geometric measurement: understand concepts of area and relate area to multiplication and to addition. 3.MD.C (MAJOR) 
  • Geometric measurement: recognize perimeter as an attribute of plane figures and distinguish between linear and area measures. 3.MD.D (ADDITIONAL) 
  • Reason with shapes and their attributes. 3.G.A (SUPPORTING)
