Motivation

STEP 1.

  Directions: Last week we learned about a new application on our Chromebook called Scratch Jr.  Do you remember the different parts of the Scratch Jr. Interface we talked about last week in technology? Let's review them together using the Scratch Jr. Interface Review Links to an external site. - Google Slides.

 

Lesson

STEP 2.

  Directions: Earlier this year we learned about Block-based programming and practiced by completing some puzzles together.  Scratch Jr. also uses a block-based programming language. Let's take a look at some of the Coding blocks Links to an external site. that we may use in Scratch Jr. over the next few weeks.

 

Activity: Scratch Jr. Create a Scene

Select a tab below to get started creating your first scene in Scratch Jr.

  Directions: Use the Create a Scene How To Guide Links to an external site. to practice adding a background and a new sprite to a project in Scratch Jr.

Reminder: The Picture Dictionary version is on Slide 2.

 

Directions: Now it is your turn to explore. Follow the directions below to make your first Scratch Jr. project and practice using some of the code blocks. 

  • Open the Scratch Jr. App on your Chromebook.
    • Scratch Jr. App Icon
  • Select Create a new project.

  • Select a background.

  • Add a green flag to begin the code for your project.

  • Then practice adding other code blocks.

  • Test your code by selecting the green flag at the top of the screen.
