Overview
Today I will learn how to use Blockly Programming to move the Dash robot with proficiency.
Motivation

Lesson
In this unit we will be coding robots such as Dash. You will become a programmer by using a block-based coding language called Blockly. This is where you will drag-and-drop various blocks or "pieces" of instructions that are put together in order to accomplish a task.
Directions: Listen to your teacher's directions. Select the Driving School tab or the Challenge Cards tab to complete the activity.
STEP 2.
Dash Puzzle Path Worksheet Links to an external site. to complete. This will help you keep track of your progress. You may work on this as a group, but each member of the group should complete their own. Directions: Follow your teacher's directions to get into small groups to complete the Dash's Driving School Puzzles. Your teacher will give each member of your group a copy of the
STEP 3.
Directions: In your groups, you will be working through the Blockly puzzles/mazes to understand and learn to use the controls for the Dash robot. Your group will follow the puzzle path starting at the beginning in Driving School. Follow the directions below to set up your Dash and get started.
- Using a class Chromebook, open Dash's Blockly Puzzle Page Links to an external site. in a new tab.
- Select Student.
- Select Use Blockly Offline.
- Make sure your Dash robot is paired with your computer.
- Select the Orange + sign in the upper right hand corner to connect to your Dash robot.
Make sure that you do this away from other groups who are also using a Dash robot.
- Once your Dash is connected you will see a Dash robot in the upper right hand corner.
- Select the Orange + sign in the upper right hand corner to connect to your Dash robot.
- Select Puzzles. Select Dash.
- Select the first puzzle Driving School to begin.
- Select the blue arrow under the puzzle name and description to get started.
- Follow the directions at the bottom of the screen to complete the puzzles. Minimize the directions using the blue arrow at the top to build your code in Blockly.
- As you are working, keep track of which puzzles you have completed on your Dash Puzzle Path Worksheet by coloring in the dot for each finished puzzle, discussing the reflection questions with your group and listing any new commands you used to successfully complete the puzzle.
