Grade 5 Computational Thinker Practicing Dialogue

Overview

Today I will learn how to use movement and dialogue using two sprites and a backdrop in Scratch for CS First.

Lesson

STEP 1.

  Directions: Select the play button to begin Sprite Movement & Dialogue Links to an external site.. As you view this video, think about what you have already learned about using the broadcast command.

STEP 2.

    Directions: Select the Direction tab and follow along with your teacher to get started.  Select the Video Tutorial tab, if you need additional help.

FILE NAME:  Practicing Dialogue- FirstName

 

  • Select File and then Load from your Computer in the drop down menu.

  • Select Recent and then select Practicing Dialogue HCPSS. sb3 file that you downloaded in the first step.

  • Select Open.

  • You now have a remix of the Practicing Dialogue HCPSS in your CS First account under Projects to complete today's activity.

  Directions: Select the play button to begin Remixing Knock Knock Joke Video Tutorial Links to an external site.. As you view this video, follow the directions to get started with your Practicing Dialogue Project.

Activity

STEP 3.

Directions: Now it's your turn to create your own Knock-Knock Joke dialogue animation using broadcasting in Scratch for CS First. Remember that your final project should include all of the following:

  • a backdrop
  • 2 sprites
  • at least one sprite must move
  • both sprites are using dialogue by applying the broadcast blocks.
  • use the script text found below

 

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

Before you begin, think about:

  • What position are the characters in on the screen?
  • Which character talks or moves first?

Use the Yellow comments to guide you with the code blocks that are needed as you build your dialogue.

Gobo: Knock! Knock!

Giga: Who's there?

Gobo: Boo!

Giga: Boo, who?

Gobo: Don't cry! It was just a joke!

Giga: That was funny!

 

  Select the Next button at the bottom of the page to save and turn in your work digitally to your teacher.
