Grade 5 Computational Thinker Let's Get Moving!

DAY 2

Overview

Today I will learn how to use broadcast messaging to allow movement of my sprites, not just dialogue.

Lesson

STEP 1.

  Directions: Select the play button to begin Movement Using Broadcast Messaging Links to an external site.. As you view this video, think about how you can create more movement for Abby, Avery, and the butterfly using broadcast message blocks.

STEP 2.

  Directions: Select the Directions tab and follow along with your teacher to get started.  Select the Video Tutorial tab, if you need additional help.

  • Sign in to CS First Links to an external site. in a new tab.
  • Select Projects in the left hand navigation.

  • Select the Let's Get Moving Project to continue to work on the project you started last class period.

  • Now you are ready to continue to work on editing the movement for your characters. 

  Directions: Select the play button to begin Accessing the Adding Movement Project Video Tutorial Links to an external site.. As you view this video, follow the directions to access your Let's Get Moving Project from the previous class period in your CS First account.

Activity: Remix and Create

STEP 3.

Directions: Now it's your turn to create more movement of Abby, Avery, and the butterfly using broadcast message blocks. Remember that your final project should include all of the following:

  • Abby and Avery move towards the rock using Receive Broadcast.
  • Butterfly moving using the Broadcast message.
  • Abby and Avery talk back and forth at least one more time.

Select the Next page button at the bottom of the page to save and turn in your work digitally to your teacher.

If You Finish Early

If you finish early, see if you can get fancy with the butterfly.

  Directions: Select the play button to begin Additional Coding for the Butterfly Links to an external site.. As you view this video, pay attention to how you can make the butterfly fly around and land on Avery's hand.  Can you add additional movement for the butterfly in your Let's Get Moving Project?
