Grade 3 Digital Citizen Cornerstone Task Lesson

 Teacher Preparation

  • Import Student Facing Module from Commons.
  • Review yellow highlighted content in the SF Module.  Create/Update content to meet the needs of your students.
  • Have a Class Roster available to record students choices for the project they are going to create.

Motivation

Multiple Means of Motivation

  • Have the students open the Grade 3 DC: Cornerstone Task Module imported in their Tech course.  Review the Overview with students.
  • Review with students the following scenario: 

    This summer you and your family will travel to another country and live there so you can take on the role of an online travel brochure designer.  You get to pick the country.  What does a country need to have to make you want to live there?  Let's make a list.

  • Gather suggestions from students and create a list of their responses using Cornerstone Task Brainstorm List - Jamboard Links to an external site.
  • Facilitate student responses towards survival needs vs. entertainment wants. 
  • Discuss with students what having an online job with online products means in relationship to digital citizenship.

Learning Target:

  • Students will make a list of important criteria for country considerations.  Students will reflect on how to use what they have learned about digital citizenship towards this project.

Lesson

Multiple Means of Representation

  • Using the Cornerstone Lesson Presentation Links to an external site. - Google Slides guide students in considering the responses just gathered and other tools to select a country from CultureGrams.
    • Slide 2 - Allow students 10 minutes to select their country.  You may choose to use a timer to help students focus on task completion within that time frame.  Early finishers can select two or three counties before making a decision.
    • Slides 3-4 - Gather students countries using the Interactive Questions on these slides.
    • Slide 5 - Review with students previous lessons where they learned how to be ethical users of intellectual property by paraphrasing, using quotations and providing citations.  
    • Slide 6 - Share with students next steps in the project.
  • Tell students that they have two choices for their final project.  They can create a Postcard in Wixie or a Brochure using Google Slides.  
  • Read the description of each project and allow students time to select which one they would like to create. 
  • Record students selections for next class period.

Learning Target:

  • Students will select a country.
  • Students will select a project option that will showcase their abilities.
