Misconception Check
Grade 5 G/T Mathematics
Closure - Misconception Check
Standards for Mathematical Practices: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6
In this closure activity, students are given a common misconception. Students can work independently, with a partner or a small group to decide if they agree or disagree with the misconception that you shared and why they agree or disagree. Afterwards, students can share whether they agree or not with the class and defend why they agree or disagree.
Questions you could ask:
- What mathematical evidence supports your argument?
- What do you notice about what I shared? What do you wonder about what I shared?
- Does anyone have a question for __________?
