Statistics Vocabulary
- Data: information that is gathered
- Statistics: collecting and analyzing numerical data in large quantities
- Probability: the likelihood of something happening
- Statistical question: a question that anticipates that there will be different answers in the data
- Statistical variation: a measure that describes how spread out or "scattered" a set of data
- Variability: a measure of how a data set is spread, and what clusters and gaps the data set has
Statistics Activities
- Look in newspapers, magazines, and appropriate online resources to analyze, interpret, and make predictions about different graphs and tables.
- Find different data sets and have your child create an appropriate way to display the data (dot plots, histograms, box plots, etc.).
- Develop questions based on graphs you find in newspapers, magazines, and appropriate online resources.
- Practice multiplication and division facts.
