Overview

Connect4Learning  provides a full year of research-based interdisciplinary instruction focused on foundations in literacy, science, social-emotional, and mathematics learning.  Connect4Learning weaves together all four domains to ensure that each subject is addressed in a manner that is meaningful for each student.  The curriculum offers practices and concepts that are applied across  all four domains while honoring what is distinctive about each area. The holistic approach to teaching and learning allows a teacher to meet each student at their developmental level.  Engaging, high-quality instruction and play-based activities complement and enrich student experiences.

Creating classroom lessons that develop a love of learning and allows children opportunity to express their thinking requires thoughtful, intentional instruction. Connect4Learning provides this instruction by interweaving academic and social skill development. Teachers facilitate student discussion, provide a model for the respectful exchange of ideas, and help students develop their own voices. With Connect4Learning students learn to nurture relationships, engage in meaningful learning and build conceptual understanding in all domain areas.

Supplemental Resources

Connect4Learning is an interdisciplinary curriculum used to support the instruction of Maryland’s  Early Learning Standards (which includes Maryland’s College and Career-Ready Standards). Some of Maryland’s Early Learning Standards are not fully addressed in C4L; more details about these standards can be found on this page. Teachers should use grade-level standards and developmental trajectories to guide instruction and support student needs.

Resources to support other Maryland Early Learning Standards that are not sufficiently addressed in the C4L curriculum can be accessed via the Prekindergarten Curriculum Community and the Connect4Learning Course Essentials page.  When planning, please consider the following high quality instructional practices:

  • Consider learning preferences and multi-sensory engagement;
  • Use scaffolding and/or differentiation to support student access and success;
  • Use evidence-based and research-informed instructional practices;
  • Ensure instruction includes social, emotional, and academic skills;
  • Plan and deliver inclusive instruction that incorporates diverse perspectives;
  • Provide multiple opportunities for application and mastery.
