Grade 5 Digital Citizen Cornerstone Task Lesson

Teacher Preparation
- Import Student Facing Module from Commons.
- Review yellow highlighted content in the SF Module. Create/Update content to meet the needs of your students.
- Consult with classroom teacher about students who work well or don't work well together to assist in creating groups of 3/4 students for the Cornerstone Task.
- Create spaces in your room for students to work through the task.
- Consider providing printed copies of the Digital Citizenship Advice Organizer Links to an external site. for students.

Motivation
Multiple Means of Motivation
- Review the Overview with students.
- Review purpose of morning meetings (SEL Circles), briefly share how the morning meetings can help solve classroom issues. Tell the class that their teacher needs help with some digital citizenship issues. Inform the students that they are going to help with this issues by providing expert advice as a journalist.
Learning Target:
- Students will share how their morning meetings help their class.
Lesson
Multiple Means of Representation
- Review and discuss the four scenarios provided as a class.
- Tell students that today they will be able to create their advice for a scenario using one of the following formats
- Advice Column
- Podcast
- Public Service Announcement (PSA)
- As a class review and learn more about each of the three options available.
- Tell students that they will create groups based of the platform they choose for their project; advice column, podcast or PSA.
- Review with students the expectations for this activity using the Cornerstone Task Rubric Links to an external site..
- Students will select the platform selected and begin to work in their collaborative group on the Cornerstone Student Organizer Links to an external site. The groups will \respond to the four issues using the prior knowledge from previous digital citizen lessons as well as resources found on Cornerstone Student Resources Document Links to an external site..

- Students will use what they have learned about digital citizenship to respond to problematic situations with thoughtful advice.

- Gather observational data as students are completing the organizer in groups.
Learning Target:
- Students will select a platform for their Cornerstone Task and work together in a collaborative group to begin an organizer.

- Create spaces in your room for students to work through the task.

- Students will rejoin their groups. Students review the Cornerstone Task Rubric Links to an external site. and provide suggestions on how to stay on task and continue to make progress.

- Students will reflect on the previous class and the rubric and continue to work toward finishing the task..
Lesson
Multiple Means of Representation
- Guide students to open the assignment choice selected during the previous class period.
- Allow students time to review the work completed previously.
- Remind groups to review the resources available for their chosen platform.
- Encourage students to practice multiple times before creating the podcast and video.
- Allow time for students to work on completing their Advice Column, Podcast, or PSA.
- During each class period provide reminders of deadline and provide supports to help students with time management.
Learning Target:
- Students will practice and record their projects.
Assessment

- Students will submit their work using the Canvas Assignment provided with assistance from the teacher as needed.
