  • Unit at a glance Scope and sequence/pacing with links to unit lessons
  • Each topic is coded with the instructional focus of (A)cquisition (acquiring basic knowledge and skills), (M)aking Meaning, or (T)ransfer.
  • Topics are organized in a recommended sequence, however they do not need to be taught in that order.

  • Before teaching this seed, use one of the resources in the lesson to find and connect with another classroom. Be sure to think about the topic, duration of exchange, place where student work will be curated, method and frequency of communication between classes, and culminating activity.

Choosing Collaborative Tools
  • U6a. Students choose the appropriate platforms and tools for meeting the desired objectives of their creation or communication.
    U7b. Students use collaborative technologies to work with others, including peers, experts or community members, to examine issues and problems from multiple viewpoints.

  • The activity How Much Water Do You Use? Links to an external site.” requires students to collect data about water use in their house for one week. Be sure to introduce the activity a week prior to beginning the lessons.
  •  Before using any social media, it is encouraged that you review what is a digital footprint, online reputation, personal information, and netiquette.
  • Import the "Choosing Collaborative Tools" Student Facing Module into the course students will use.
Using the Criteria for Choosing Tools
  • U6a. Students choose the appropriate platforms and tools for meeting the desired objectives of their creation or communication.
  • U6b. Students create original works or responsibly re-purpose or remix digital resources into new creations.
  • U6c. Students communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively by creating or using a variety of digital objects such as visualizations, models or simulations.

  • Students should have experience with Canvas discussions.
    • Before using any chat rooms, review netiquette and appropriate language. Be sure to stress the difference between social and academic chat.
    • Import the "Using Criteria for Choosing Tools" Student Facing Module into the course students will use.
